It's been a while since I've had one of these entries, but this place is worth the wait. Only one catch - it's in London!
The Wapping Project Wapping Hydrolic Power Station Wapping Wall London E1W 3ST 0871 3328754
I had been to this place for Jody's birthday a little while back, and thought it was the perfect place to take Serena for her's last night. It's a restaurant in an old Hydrolic Power Station in east London. When you enter, the hostess will tell you how the station used to power all of the raising and lowering of the theater curtains in the west end and the elevators in the city. Now, the old power station is a kind of art gallery-meets-restaurant, where you can see enjoy some contemporary art in the 'gallery' (one big room in the back that reminds me of the turbine room in the Tate Modern), enjoy a really nice meal among the well-preserved industrial machines, and go up to the roof for a beautiful view of the area. This is a great place to go for something a little different, and is definitely worth the trip to Wapping!
What a beautiful wedding. Can't say I'd ever been to a wedding between an American-Taiwanese girl and a German guy in England (or anywhere else, for that matter). A truly international ceremony. One of the readings was in Chinese, the other in German, and friends came from all over the world... very cool.
Just for vacation, but it's nice to be back. Enjoying the World Cup coverage on the BBC at the moment. No offense to ABC/ESPN/ESPN2, but it's nice to listen to the commentary out here - I couldn't care less about some of the statistics the US commentators discuss, or how well Beckham can 'bend it'!
One of the nice things about visitors is having a reason to do the tourist things I've wanted to do. We were lucky with the weather during most of Serena's visit, so did the TimeOut Brooklyn Bridge walk (thanks for the suggestion, Alan), went to the top of the Rockefeller Center (thanks Eileen), walked down fifth Avenue, Times Square, walked around Greenwich Village, and had a picnic in the park with Hoy and Silvia. The weather during Annette's visit with her family was a little more variable, but they managed to see quite a lot of the city (I'll put some of Christopher's pictures up soon). I joined for a look around the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which was really nice. I don't yet have a 'Jaffe Tour of New York', but I'm working on it!
