Restaurant of the week

Christina and Uli were back in the city today, and we decided to head down to the East Village to grab some dinner. Our first two choices were absolutely packed, so rather than stand around in the cold, we stopped into a noodle bar that is a viable alternative to my regular East Village noodle bar option, momofuku.

When I was in college, Ramen noodles were what you ate when you didn't have any money. I think you could get 3 packs for $1. Just boil some water in your hot pot, add the noodles and whatever was in that flavor packet pouch, and you were good to go.

This is not your college Ramen. Not even close. The broth has way more than the contents of that little packet - salty, yet extremely flavorful, and packed with noodles and other goodies like roasted pork, seaweed, and a soft-boiled egg. The perfect meal to keep you warm on a cold winter night!

新年好!

Today is the beginning of the Chinese New Year. 2008 is the year of the rat, and in particular, the year of the earth rat:

THE EARTH RAT 1948 AND 2008

The Earth adds solidity to the Rat's personality. An Earth Rat is conventional and a good achiever who likes to establish roots early in order to make a secure future for himself and his family. These Rats have the typical Rat ingenuity and mental capacity, but a strong sense of reality often alludes them preventing them from going after anything that could be impromptu. Earth Rats are honorable and love to be stabilized. Slowly and steadily acquiring wealth gives them a sense of inner peace. Although they are capable of being stingy with their finances, they do possess warm feelings for their family and friends.

Super Bowl XLII

After not having much to cheer about during last year's Super Bowl, I was very happy to see a competitive game from start to finish. For those of you who missed the game, the New York Giants pulled it out with an amazing final drive to beat the New England Patriots 17-14.

No doubt the play of the game was Eli Manning escaping a sack on 3rd down to keep that final drive alive:



One of the big Super Bowl traditions here in the States is to go to a 'Super Bowl Party', which many times is filled with people who don't really care about the game. Advertisers understand this, and to keep the non-football lovers entertained, they unveil some new commercials. Here are my top 3 from this year's Super Bowl. Enjoy!
